The Cricket, The Mouse, and the Thristy Man

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

For those of you that haven't watched TV in the last month, it might be news to you that the Stanford 20 20, a huge cricket tournament in the Carribean, is being televised in FOCO. Fort Collins is the only city in America to be televising this event.

Sir Allen Stanford, dubbed the Santa Claus of Cricket in an article on the Colorado Cricket Leagues website, is putting on several events. Most of these events are viewing parties at local resturants, like CB and Potts, but the most notable event was a free concert at the Aggie Theater on Jan. 24, 2008. The concert featured reggae band Eek A Mouse and local favorites P-nuckle. The bands played excellent sets despite having to wear painfully bright chartreuse longs sleeve shirts.

The biggest draw was neither cricket nor the bands but the $10 all you can drink special. A free concert and a cheap drink are great ways to promote anything in FOCO, however, having it at the Aggie is not. Like usual, the management at the Aggie managed to ruin the fun by having everybody pay a second $10 at 11 p.m. for more drinks.

Overall, the event was a success. It got me interested enough to watch some cricket or, at the very least, find out what the hell it is.
