Tri for Our Veterans…Sea Isle City’s Summer Triathlon, 5/24/2008 at the Jersey Shore
Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008The "Tri for Our Veterans" Triathlon, is to be held in Sea
Isle City, NJ on May 24, 2008. The three-part race will begin at 7:30 A.M. and will consist of a
400-meter ocean swim, a 12.3 mile (4.1 mile loop) bicycle race and a 3.1 mile beach run.
All proceeds will go to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and to Sea Isle's VFW Post 1963 in their efforts to rebuild the town's Veterans' Memorial site.
According to Race Director Matt McCulley, the triathlon will be a positive way to kick off the summer season and celebrate Memorial Day Weekend.
"We want to keep the word 'memorial' in Memorial Day," said McCulley. "Our real focus is on our returning soldiers, injured marines and the work Semper Fi Fund has done."
Established in 2004, Semper Fi Fund provides financial assistance and quality of life solutions to injured marines, their families and other service members injured in direct support of marine units. The fund also supports Team Semper Fi, which is made up of injured marines and sailors who compete in athletic events that raise funds and awareness for wounded veterans. Team Semper Fi provides wounded team members with coaches, specialized sporting equipment, entry fees and travel expenses.

youth olympics promises to be different
Tuesday, April 15th, 2008
Singapore is very excited about hosting the inaugural Youth Olympics in 2010.
How different is this event from the Olympics itself, and its other variations?
As the name suggests, the athletes are younger. They range between 14-18 years of age, those impressionable years when much of a person’s values and characters are inculcated.
So, apart from sporting spirit, the organisers are looking to instill friendship, respect and environmental awareness to the participants. It will be compulsory for them to clock hours of cultural and educational sessions built around the sporting events.
Among others, there will be visits to a water renewal plant, seminars on healthy lifestyle and social responsibilites, and excursions to Pulau Ubin, a relatively unchanged and unspoilt island off Singapore.
The athletes’ parents will get to take part in some of these programmes, too.
“We” won the game!!! (Do you really think you helped the team win?)
Tuesday, April 1st, 2008I'm walking with my dog and a buddy in the hood the other day. There is a building by my apt. whereupon; they throw events...sometimes they are ravs, other times you might stumble across a high fashion runway show and still others; a Bar Mitzvah...on this particular day, it was just that.
A bunch of fancy ladies and dudes running around in their beenie hats.* Hence a Bar Mitzvah. We walk by and my dog sits and stares at the patrons longingly...(mostly because they had food and that is pretty much his only goal in life; to get food)...Then a man, a deranged man is on his cell phone screaming at the top of his lungs; "WE WON"!! 'I can't believe WE fucking won"...Fuck yeah, WE are the best. WE are going all the way baby. We, We, We...
I'm listening to the extremely loud telephone converation thinking; (which I verbalized later to my friend)...this guy thinks he was a part of the WE in team. This guy actually is taking credit for the Lakers winning their game. He is including himself as a part of the team...WE won...(you did?...I thought you were attending a Bar Mitzvah...how the hell did you help the team win?) It's baffling to me.
I even got to thinking; if I actually went and hunted down a few of the Laker's team members and asked them; "Did a man in a beenie hat at a Bar Mitzvah help you guys win the game? I don't even think he was watching the game to be honest...But he is claiming that WE won...meaning he is indeed a part of the team that triumphed to win. I'm pretty sure the Lakers would not agree that he helped them win in any way, shape or form.
So next time someone takes credit for a team's win by inserting a bunch of unwarranted WE's into the convo; you need to ask if the team feels that he or she is a contributing source directly correlated to their winning? There is nothing worse that an overweight, grown man in a beenie taking credit for your win, for your years of hard work and service. It's just not fair. Thank you for your support in this matter. Sports teams all over the globe thank you as well...
* I realize that damn beenie is also called a yamika and I mean no disrespect to the beenie.
